BMW Z3 Common Problems and Solutions
Wet seats
Problem:
Are the seats on your roadster wet after it rains? The roof is known for leaking, where it connects with the front window.
Solution:
You will need to fit a replacement seal to stop the leak.

Rattling seats
Problem:
The plastic bush clips on the seats are known for breaking, causing the seat to rattle. If you can hear this rattling noise coming from any of your seats, this will be the most likely cause.
Solution:
You will need to replace the plastic bush clips, in order to fix the problem.

Exhaust manifold failure
Problem:
If you can hear a loud cracking noise coming from the top of the engine, this means you have a cracked exhaust manifold. This is most common on the 1.9L engine and you will hear the noise better with the bonnet open.
Solution:
Fitting a replacement exhaust manifold will sort the problem. We can help you to find a replacement exhaust manifold, at a very low price.

Engine misfiring
Problem:
Are you having any problems with the engine misfiring? The revs should be constant instead of moving up and down erratically (misfiring). There is a known issue with the valve timing on the Z3, particularly on the 1.9L engine.
Solution:
You can have the valve timing modified by a specialist. This should stop the misfiring.

Alarm problems
Problem:
Is your alarm going off on its own accord? If so, the Z3 has known issues with faulty micro switches. The micro switch on the door, or the bonnet will be the most likely cause of this problem.
Solution:
Once you have identified whether it is the micro switch on the door, or the bonnet that is causing the alarm problem, you will need to fit a replacement one to resolve the issue.
