About Trims
Trim is a general term for the cosmetic finish to the assembly method in the manufacture of vehicles. The trim tends to differ according to whether the vehicle is standard, mid-range or a luxury model.
Trim is found extensively on the interior and exterior of all vehicles.
Examples of Mitsubishi trim, on the exterior are plastic bumpers, chrome and rubber strips that protect the vehicle from bumps and scrapes.
Interior trim includes upholstery, carpeting and door panels etc.
Mitsubishi trim comes in different standards or levels, such as base, i.e. cloth upholstery, the least expensive; mid-level such as vinyl or faux leather upholstery, which is moderately expensive; and high end, the most expensive, which can include chrome strips, leather upholstery and wood grain trim.
Most trim is held in place with push pull fixings and/or screws.
Mitsubishi trim is usually replaced for reasons of damage due to general wear and tear.
Mitsubishi trivia
- It was in 1995 that Mitsubishi unveiled the world's first Gasoline Direct Injection engine. It is now the industry standard thanks to its reduced environmental impact.
- Mitsubishi designed and built the first electric car to drive 2000 miles in under 24hours. This was in 1992, but it wasn't until 2010 that they released the i-MiEV, which quickly won the Most Advanced Technology Award. It was the first electric car to sell 10,000 units!
- The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X is hard to park. That's because it doesn't have a reverse gear! Rather than simply sliding it into reverse, drivers have to change the rotation of the first and third gears. It saves weight, but it's not easy to get used to.
- A Mitsubishi Starion Turbo was almost as big of a star as Burt Reynolds after it featured in iconic chase film Cannonball Run II.
- Mitsubishi didn't just win the 1974 East Africa Safari Rally. They came second and third too! They've also won the Dakar Rally an impressive 12 times, with seven of those wins being consecutive.
