Voted European Car of the Year in 2003, the new Megane received a good reception in each area of production, showcasing very innovative technology.
The second generation Megane was one of the first Renault vehicles to see the introduction of new technology such as the Renault Card keyless ignition system. This came as standard, which was a first in its class. Buyers also had the option of a panoramic glass sunroof.
Third Generation Renault Megane 2008 To Present
The third generation Megane was launched in late 2008, presenting yet another completely different design. The original release of the third generation Megane saw sales for just two models: the 5 door hatchback and Coupé. They sported very different designs, with the Coupé having a sporty design whilst the 5 door model is more conservative.
The first line of production saw five body types: saloon, coupé, hatchback, convertible and estate, with engine sizes ranging from 1.4 litres to 2.0 litres. Renault also produced a limited number of sport rendition phase ones, which sported the Renaultsport bodywork.
The second generation Megane also had engines ranging in size from 1.4 litre to 2.0 litre. A flex-fuel version of the vehicle, known as the "Hi-Flex" was released in Brazil. This flex fuel version is available with a 16V 109 horsepower 1.6 litre inline-four engine, or a 2.0 litre engine which does not allow ethanol use because its engine is made in France.
The original release of the third generation Renault Megane offered a wide range of engine sizes, like the other two generations: from 1.4 litre to 2.0 litre. Four body types are available in this generation: five door hatchback, three door coupé, two door coupé cabriolet and a five door estate. In 2012, the new Megane saw its first facelift which saw the introduction of three engines: a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine, a new 110 hp version of the 1.5 litre dCi engine and a new 1.6 litre dCi engine.
