Renault Twingo Common Problems and Solutions
Erratic Engine
Problem:
The engine is running very erratically and tends to idle quickly.
Solution:
You will find that you have a faulty throttle control module, which can wear out relatively quickly on the Twingo. Have us deliver a replacement throttle control module and swap out the worn one.

Knocking Sound when Turning
Problem:
You might hear a knocking sound when you begin to turn a corner, and you may also notice a clicking sound.
Solution:
If the Twingo has been driven aggressively, then there's a good chance that the front left stub axle carrier has worn out quickly. You'll need to order a replacement from our parts list and remove the damaged one.

Window electrics problem
Problem:
This issue is not only common on the Twingo but also affects several other Renault models. If you've noticed that the windows are struggling to go up or down and are moving very slowly, then you have a problem with the window regulator.
Solution:
Fixing the regulator will resolve the issue. Watch the video below to see if this helps. If you're unable to fix it, you'll need to replace the window regulator.

Ignition key/fob problems
Problem:
It is common on these vehicles for the key fob not to open the doors and the ignition key not to start the car. This is caused by a software fault.
Solution:
You will need to take your car to a Renault garage to have the software updated. You might be able to get this done free of charge if your car is still under warranty.

Heater problems
Problem:
Heater problems are not only an issue on the Renault Twingo, but are also quite common on most Renault vehicles. You may have noticed that the heater is cutting out, not working on certain settings, or not blowing out hot air.
Solution:
The main cause for this is usually the blower motor resistor. It can also be the heater switch, but the first step is to replace the blower motor resistor. If this does not resolve your issue, then try the heater switch.

Car become sluggish/losing power
Problem:
This is a common issue with these cars. It is well known that they become sluggish and lose power. The usual cause of this problem is a faulty ignition coil.
Solution:
You will need to identify the coil causing the fault and replace it. The advice is to change all the ignition coils at once to ensure optimal performance.

Front suspension problems
Problem:
If you hear a loud cracking sound coming from the front while driving, and notice a possibly uneven height at the front, you might have an issue with the front suspension springs. This is a common problem on the Renault Twingo.
Solution:
You will need to replace the faulty suspension spring to resolve the issue. It is advisable to replace both springs at the same time.

Problem:
The seat belts do not lock when pulled.
Solution:
You will need to replace the entire seat belt assembly because a faulty seatbelt is very dangerous to drive with. Browse our store for high-quality replacements and install the new ones yourself.

Bumpy Driving
Problem:
Journeys are very rough.
Solution:
There was a defect in the front shock absorber mounting for the anti-roll bar rod in Twingos built in mid-2014. You will need to review our parts list and order a replacement mounting. Additionally, you will have to order new shock absorbers, as they may have become damaged.

Detached Bonnet Skin
Problem:
The skin on the upper part of the bonnet is coming off, which could lead to visibility problems. You might also face the same issue with the rear spoiler.
Solution:
This issue is caused by the use of weak adhesives and is common on Twingos built between May 2014 and December 2016. You will need to add a reinforcement strip to the bonnet skin to prevent it from separating, which we always have in stock.

Loose Seat Belt Buckles
Problem:
The belt buckles aren't secure and sometimes pop free.
Solution:
This fault led to a Twingo recall, and the only solution is to replace the seat belt buckles. If you leave the faulty ones, you will be at risk in the event of a collision. Order replacement seat belt buckles from us, and we can deliver them directly to you.
