About Wiring Loom
The 3 Series BMW Wiring Loom is a set of wires strapped together designed to begin and terminate at specific points in the vehicle. The loom is rather like the London Underground Map with different coloured wires running from one point in the vehicle to another. During manufacture these looms are premade with the wires strapped together and shaped to run a certain route through the car's structure. The looms can be separate pieces that connect at junction points.
These looms run through channeling in the car body, under carpets behind roof lining and behind the car dashboard. These connect the electrical power required for the functioning of the engine, and all equipment requiring electrical power.
Faults can occur in the 3 Series BMW Wiring Loom due to short circuiting, over heating, fire damage or crash damage.
BMW 3 Series trivia
- The BMW 3 Series was first launched in 1975 to replace the 02 Series, which was one of the most popular high-end cars in the world at the time.
- Sales figures for the 3 Series went through the roof in the 1980s, thanks to the rise of Yuppies. Although BMW made a lot of sales, ultimately, the association harmed the BMW brand for a few years until the association with Yuppies started to fade
- Due to the growing demand for cars that would be able to drive better on slippery, icy roads, BMW launched the BMW 325iX. It was the first 3 Series (and the first BMW) to come with all-wheel-drive.
- The 3 Series E36 ended up with a sports version thanks to the previous success of the E30. The end result, the BMW Z3, was the first BMW to be built in the US.
- The 3 Series Touring wasn’t a planned production model. It was actually designed by a BMW engineer called Max Reisbock, who used his spare time to convert a damaged 323i so that it was more suitable for his family. When his bosses saw the result, they made a few tweaks and then built a factory version.
