The brake caliper is a key component of a vehicle’s disc braking system, designed to apply the necessary pressure that slows and stops your car.
Positioned just behind the wheel and straddling the brake disc (rotor), the caliper houses the brake pads and a hydraulic piston that presses the pads against the disc when the brake pedal is engaged.

- Fluid leaks from the piston seal
- Seized pistons causing uneven braking or pulling to one side
- Reduced braking efficiency or increased stopping distance
- Vibrations, clunking noises, or dragging wheels
- Visual signs of rust, corrosion, or cracked housing
Neglecting a faulty caliper can lead to premature brake pad wear, reduced control, and even brake system failure.

- The piston is seized or leaking

While front calipers tend to wear out 2–3 times more frequently than rear ones, always check both when servicing your brakes.
