History of Citroen Berlingo

The Berlingo is a small van that has been in production since 1996. It''s manufactured by the PSA Peugeot Citroen Alliance, which is a multinational manufacturer based in France. They produce the Berlingo and an almost identical model called the "Peugeot Partner" in Poissy, as well as various other locations across the globe. Based on the Citroen ZX and Peugeot 306 estate floorplan and mechanicals, the Berlingo is a well known model that has won a number of awards, including Business Van of the Year in 2015. The Citroen Berlingo is known to offer a comprehensive range, giving its buyers a great selection of additional extras to choose from. It''s a reliable small van that offers class leading fuel consumption. It introduced the double passenger seat to the small van class.

First generation Citroen Berlingo I (1996 to 2007)

Officially launched in July 1996, the Citroen Berlingo was first shown at the Paris Motor Show. At the show, Citroen also presented a set of three concept cars, including a small roomy car, referred to as the Berline Bulle. This concept car had a roomy interior and was considered as a precursor for the C3. However the only concept of the three to be developed was the "Grand Large", which was made into a Multispace and Combi.

The Berlingo was revised in 2002, featuring a redesigned interior and front exterior. More changes were made with a 2004 facelift, including changes to the grille and light clusters.

Euro NCAP gave the Citroen Berlingo a four star rating at its crash safety tests, however only the driver gets an airbag as standard. Passenger airbags are an additional option.

Second generation Citroen Berlingo II (2008 to 2015)

The Mk2 Citroen Berlingo was launched for the European market in January 2008, styled by Gille Vidal and based on PSA''s platform 2. It''s slightly larger than the first generation Berlingo and offers a similar engine range to other models from the PSA group. The second generation Citroen Berlingo was available as a three- or four-door panel van.

The Mk2 is a spacious, practical van that offers a great range of family friendly features. It gives a safe, reliable driving performance, scoring four out of five for occupant protection at the Euro NCAP crash tests. It also features a roomy cabin, which allows five adults to travel in comfort. Electric front windows are fitted across the range.
