History of Daewoo cars
Established in 1937, Daewoo is a brand that has sold cars under various names. It only produced cars in its own name between 1982 and 1999, which is the year Daewoo Motors was dismantled by the Korean government. The rights to Daewoo were bought in 2001 by General Motors, who up until 2011 sold cars under the names GM Daewoo and GM Korea. Before its dismantlement in 1999, Daewoo produced a number of popular models like the Kalos, Matiz and Lacetti. Daewoo was known for its forward thinking, using slogans such as ‘new ways, always’, ‘driving innovation’ and ‘better future’. GM and Shinjin Motor joined forces in 1972 and formed Daewoo Motors in 1983. They got heavily involved in commercial engineering as well equipment including buses, trucks and cars. Introducing itself in Britain at the Birmingham NEC Motorshow in 1994 as The Biggest Company you never heard of, Daewoo cars are now all over the British roads.
