History of Ford B-Max
The Ford B-Max is a mini multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) manufactured by the world-renowned Ford Motor Company since its launch in 2012. Based on the Ford Fiesta, the B-Max was initially launched as a concept-car in 2011 before going on sale in the UK during 2012. Popular with young families thanks to its spacious, versatile interior and unique side door layout, the B-Max has been a successful addition to the Ford line-up. Its compact size and easy-access systems were just some of the traits Ford included to help the B-Max appeal to today''s urban driver. The Ford B-Max has established itself as a strong choice for those looking for a car that''s cheap to run without scrimping on safety or drive quality. A practical vehicle, the B-Max boasts an easy-access door design to complement its spacious interior layout, making it a popular choice among young families.
Ford B-Max (2012 - present)
Ford introduced the B-Max vehicle to its car lineup after first introducing it as a concept car at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. It was then officially launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona during 2012 with production starting in June of the same year. It was then released for the UK market in September 2012.
The design for the B-Max is based on another of Ford''s hugely successful models, the Fiesta. It was built on the Ford B3 platform and continued to use the Ford Kinetic Design style, with rear sliding doors that did away with B-pillars. The B-Max was intended to rival the Citroen C3 Picasso and the Nissan Note.
Initially it was available in three different trim levels: Studio, Zetec and Titanium. Studio, the basic model, was only available with a 1.4 litre engine. What Car? recommend in their reviews that buyers are better off going for the mid-range Zetec model with its additional alloy wheels, air conditioning, DAB radio, heated windscreen and USB/Bluetooth connectivity.
When it comes to engines the B-Max is available with the new Ford EcoBoost 1.0 L three-cylinder engine, featuring turbocharged direct injection and a start & stop system. This engine was awarded International Engine of the Year in 2012. Other engine options come from a 1.4 L Duratec and a 1.5 L Duratorq diesel offering. The B-Max also boasts Ford''s Intelligent Protection system, something which no doubt helped during Euro NCAP safety testing in 2012 when the Ford B-Max received a five-star safety rating. Ford''s Torque Vectoring Control, SYNC and Fold Flat systems are also included to help improve handling, agility and the driver''s overall enjoyment behind the wheel.
