About Handbrake Lever

The Mondeo Ford handbrake lever is typically positioned to the left hand side of the driver on a right hand drive vehicle, however there are some exceptions. The lever is used to apply the brakes in an emergency, although it is important that the foot brakes are not used at the same time, as this can upset the vehicle’s balance. It is also used to engage the brakes when parking, or when stopping on a hill to ensure the vehicle doesn’t roll away.

The Mondeo Ford handbrake lever has a ratchet locking mechanism which will not disengage until a button is pressed on the lever itself. It is attached to the mechanical braking system via a cable which runs to the brakes. The cable can attach to drum brakes at the brake shoes or attach to disc brakes, which utilise a lever and corkscrew near the piston.

Signs that your Mondeo Ford handbrake lever may need attention could include the handbrake feeling too tight or loose, which may be a sign of a badly adjusted or worn handbrake cable. It may also not secure the car when applied, meaning that the vehicle can move when parked. Any handbrake issues should be rectified immediately.

Ford Mondeo trivia

  • There was a point where the Mondeo was the most popular company car in the UK. However, it eventually lost that title to the BMW 3-Series.
  • Although the Mk1 and MKII Mondeos were regular sights in the British Touring Car Championship, it wasn’t until their final year of competing in 2000 that they won. The 2000 team, led by the legendary Alain Menu, owned the competition for the whole season, and not only came first in the competition but second and third as well.
  • The UK government website, yougov.co.uk, claims that the Ford Mondeo is the 44th most popular car in the UK and the 12th most famous. The site also claims that the car is most popular with millennials and baby boomers and that more males prefer the Mondeo than females.
  • The Mark III Mondeo, launched in 2000, quickly gained a name as one of the best cars in the UK. It won the WhatCar? award and Top Gear Car of the Year, and was praised for its safety features, the high-quality interiors, and its exceptional handling.
  • The fourth-generation Ford Mondeo was released in 2007 with several improvements. The newer model was more fuel-efficient and came with options for a hatchback model or an estate version.
