Volvo V90 (1990 - 1998)
Within the Volvo V90 range, or the 900 Series as it was initially known, the 940 model was the first to launch back in 1990, as one of the last in a long-running line of bigger rear-wheel drive cars from the Swedish manufacturer. This initial 940 model was basically a cosmetic reskin of the existing Volvo 740 model, sharing many of the same engines. These included a 2.0 L and a 2.3 L, either naturally aspirated or turbocharged.
For the 1991 model year Volvo released the 960 model, as a replacement for the 760. This was one of the first models to feature design work from Peter Horbury. One of the most noticeable changes was the addition of a 24-valve DOHC inline six-cylinder engine. In 1994 the 960 was facelifted, with changes to the grille and body-coloured panels added, and from the following year only modular six-cylinder engines were available.
History of Volvo V90
The Volvo V90 is a series of executive cars produced by Swedish manufacturer Volvo from 1990. The collection was initially known as the 900 Series, before Volvo renamed it the V90 from 1996. The vehicle was based around the earlier 700 Series models, with early V90 components largely similar to these existing vehicles. When the V90 range of cars ceased production in 1998, it became the last range of rear-wheel-drive models seen from Volvo. The Volvo V90 is an evolution of the 900 Series range of cars, produced by the Swedish carmaker from 1990 - 1998, with talks of a new release being iminent. The V90 models were widely recognised as being practical, versatile estate models, often used as chassis for ambulances and hearses. The V90 was one of the last rear-wheel-drive models produced by Volvo.
