The indicator switch stalk is generally mounted on a car's steering column with the primary function of switching on the car's left or right turn indicator lights. They are designed to allow the driver to easily operate the indicator lights without having to remove their hands from the steering wheel.
On some indicator switch stalks there are additional buttons or switches for other car functions such as cruise control, horn or headlamp modes.
The indicator stalk switch is an electromechanical component; electronic switches and a mechanism for cancelling or switching off the indicator as the steering when is rotated.
The indicator stalk switch is generally maintenance and problem free although like all components can be prone to wear and tear and accidental damage. This can include failure of the cancellation mechanism or electrical faults due to burnt out switches of short circuits.
