About Fuel Filler Flaps
The Peugeot fuel filler flap is a flap or covering which conceals the hole where you put the fuel into a vehicle. The fuel filler flap protects and covers the top of the pipe that connects to the petrol tank.
Usually made of plastic, aluminium or steel, fuel filler flaps are often mounted on a hinge or function with a spring mechanism. The fuel filler flap looks a bit like a miniature door and can be located on either side of the vehicle, towards the back, often on the quarter panel or rear wing. Usually lockable, sometimes linked up to the car's central locking system, the fuel filler flap gives peace of mind when leaving your vehicle parked unattended.
The Peugeot fuel filler flap serves to prevent dirt, dust and other unwanted debris from entering the fuel pipe and potentially clogging up and damaging the filters. It also functions to stop fuel from spilling, leaking and evaporating out of the vehicle. The Peugeot fuel filler flap also prevents others from accessing your fuel supply and siphoning the fuel.
Usual reasons for replacing this part include damage to the fuel filler flap or the opening mechanism. Purchasing a Peugeot fuel filler flap will ensure the part fits perfectly with the make and model of your vehicle.
Peugeot trivia
- You know the name Ettore Bugatti and the brand that bears his name, but did you know that Bugatti also designed the four-cylinder engine in 1912 for the Peugeot Bébé? You can't miss that unmistakable Bugatti look once you know that fact, and the car quickly became France's best selling car.
- Peugeot might not be a name in Formula 1 (they did try a few times, but it never quite worked out), but they have been dominant in other races. In particular, four victories in an incredible 24 hours at Le Mans, and six impressive wins in the Dakar rally, to name just a few.
- Peugeot has won the European Car of the Year an incredible five times. The earliest win was in 1969, and the latest was as recently as 2017 (the Peugeot 3008).
- All models of Peugeot have a number designation with a 0 in the middle. There's a persistent myth that this is because the designers wanted to integrate the starting handle, and chose the central 0 as the ideal way to hide the slot. There's no substance to that myth, but those numbers are an indication of the size and age of the car.
- It was Armand Peugeot who turned the company into car manufacturing. He called the company the Société des Automobiles Peugeot (Peugeot Automotive Society) and was the one who approved the famous lion emblem that is still used today.
