About Wheel Arch Spats
The Saab wheel arch spat is a side cover for the wheel arch.
Bolted or fixed with clips to the wing of the car, the wheel arch arches above the wheel and can be covered with a Saab wheel arch spat, which covers the upper part of the wheel and tyre, and in some cases hides the entire wheel.
The Saab wheel arch functions to provide a space which houses the wheel, keeping the wheel within the body of the car. Offering protection to the wheel arch, the Saab wheel arch spat helps it to function as a protective barrier, stopping mud, stones and other debris from the road flying up and hitting the car. The Saab wheel arch spat also gives a sleek look to the exterior of the car. Wheel arch spats are often chosen by car owners to enhance the car's appearance and styling. It offers additional protection from minor damage such as scrapes and dings and also adds detail or accents to the car's styling.
Exposed to all weather conditions and damage from stones and other road debris, the Saab wheel arch spat will deteriorate eventually. Damage can occur if impacted in a crash and a replacement Saab wheel arch spat will need to be fitted. Wheel arches come in a variety of designs and are specific to car make and model, so it's important to buy a wheel arch spat that's compatible with the make, model and year of your car. When you buy a good quality replacement Saab wheel arch spat you can be certain you'll have a part that fits your car properly and will perform well.
Saab trivia
- The Saab 900 was built between 1978 and 1993 and is the best selling Saab ever. In that time, it sold a total of 980,817 cars, around half of which were the convertible model. They can still be seen on UK roads very regularly.
- There was lots of controversy over the Saab 93 in Sweden. Not so much the car itself, but the marketing for the vehicle clearly showed a young couple in bed together, but the woman wasn't wearing a wedding ring. Complaints poured in from shocked Swedes, and Saab hastily added a wedding ring.
- When it comes to accessories, it's hard to beat the Toppola Camper, which turns a Saab 99 and Saab 900 into a sort of campervan. The Toppola comes with a cooker, double bed, and heater, and is attached to the Saab by removing the rear door.
- The character of Jerry Seinfeld drove a classic Saab 900 convertible. It wasn't shown much onscreen, but viewers did see him sell it and buy a newer Saab.
- The Saab concept car, the EV-1, was unveiled in 1985 and had a few cool features. One was the addition of solar cells to the roof (to power a ventilation fan) and self-repairing bumpers.
