About Indicator Wiper Stalk

The Transit Ford indicator wiper stalk is attached to the steering column via a multi-connecting plug, and is operated by the driver using a lever. When the lever is pushed, the wipers that are located on the indicators start moving in an arcing motion to clean dirt from the vehicle’s indicators with the aid of washing fluid from the washer system. The indicators wipers are powered by a motor consisting of a series of 4 bar linkages.

Problems with the Transit Ford indicator wiper stalk can be caused through general wear and tear through consistent use. Many modern vehicles will display an error message or give warning if there is an issue with any element of the wiper system and it may be possible to diagnose the cause of stalk failure by using a circuit tester.

Other signs of Transit Ford indicator wiper stalk failure could be noticed by a ‘loose’ lever when attempting to operate the indicator wipers, which can be caused by a broken stalk or signs of burn out on the electronic components. A failed Transit Ford indicator wipe stalk may alternatively be too stiff to move easily which can cause the indicator wipers to stop functioning.

Ford Transit trivia

  • The Ford Transit XXL is a one-off version of the classic van that is designed to offer the limousine experience. Its 7.4-metres long, has seven Captain’s chairs (leather-trimmed of course), and a personal entertainment screen for every passenger.
  • London’s Regent Park Zoo once transported two baby elephants in the back of a Ford Transit.
  • Before national speed limits were introduced in the UK, the engineers for Ford would often be spotted carrying out late-night speed tests in a Ford Transit. The police would occasionally stop them, not to hand out a fine but to check on the progress of the team.
  • In Switzerland, the size of the Ford Transit means that by removing the tyres it’s possible to drive the van along Swiss train tracks. Engineers would drive along the tracks to where they needed to work, then take the van off the tracks to drive home.
  • As you’d expect, Ford puts new Transits through a huge number of tests. The latest generation Transit was driven for 11-million kilometres (which equals 275 times around the world) and was driven in arctic conditions as well as the desert environment of Death Valley.
